Why are so many individuals and companies using WordPress for their website platform these days? There are many answers to this question, but one of the more important answers involves the structure in which WordPress presents your website to the world.
Of course, the ease of use of the WordPress platform makes it very attractive. Especially to small business owners who use the internet to promote their company. The administrative tools provided are akin to using market-leading word processing/editing software such as Microsoft Word. Once introduced to the administrative environment, most users are up and running managing their website content with ease.
The reason that structure is important is because a website needs to be accessible not only to human beings but to search engine (google, bing, yahoo!, etc.) crawlers. Websites are ‘crawled’ on a regular basis by these search engines. By doing so, they catalog websites and the information contained within. Having your site optimized for the search engines facilitates this process. You may hear the terms Search Engine Optimization. Or, SEO. In it’s most basic form it means that the formatting of the website structure is consumable by search engines. Now, there is a myriad of other factors that go into optimizing a website design for search engines, but we’ll cover those topics individually in other posts.
By effectively cataloging the information within a website, the search engine can match an individual user’s search to relevant website content matching the keywords. Thus, providing an expected keyword search result. And, driving appropriate traffic to the website.
The structure in which website content is presented to the end user, or customer, also helps facilitate easy navigation within the site. If navigation is intuitive and straightforward, users are likely to browse around within the site and explore. Further, if the information presented is relevant to their needs, as they explore the site they develop a better understanding of what the site or company offers, along with a higher likelihood of contacting or purchasing from the company.
Helping customers find information is an important task small business owners must undertake. Using WordPress as the platform on which a website runs takes a huge step in that direction.
Again, not only does the platform offer users and administrators an effective and user-friendly platform, it presents the content to search engines in a recognizable and usable format. This is a very good thing for getting recognized in search engine results.
So, when considering a website redesign or new website all together, look closely at all of the offerings available. Of those offerings, it is our opinion that WordPress be very close to the top of the list.
